Announcing Functional Fall: A 6-session functional programming reading circle in the Fall |
Lambdas, combinators and s-expresions, on my! With the likes of Clojure, Scala and F#, functional programming has been making a comeback. Functional ideas have been popping up from systems as large as Hadoop to ones as small as a multi-core processor. Come find out what all the fuss is about at "A Functional Fall", by Comcast Interactive Media and Philly Lambda. We'll be reading and discussing a variety of functional papers, starting with "Why Functional Programming Matters". From there, the group will vote on the next paper to study. The group will run for a total of six meetings throughout the fall, and we'll meet at the Comcast Center, with the obligatory migration to a local watering hole to give our brains a rest afterwards. Hope to see you all there! You can get the first paper at http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/people/staff/dat/miranda/whyfp90.pdf. RSVP at http://www.doodle.com/dvd85t6iw8hs8vqp. Check us out on the web at http://functionalfall.com/. The dates are: Sept. 7, 2011 6:30-8:00 PM Sept. 21, 2011 6:30-8:00 PM Oct. 5, 2011 6:30-8:00 PM Oct. 19, 2011 6:30-8:00 PM Nov. 2, 2011 6:30-8:00 PM Nov. 16, 2011 6:30-8:00 PM I am looking forward to seeing you there!
