Re: AI Winter: Turing

Yes! Thank you to everybody that came out tonight! We had a great turnout and an engaging talk.

The next paper we are doing in two weeks (Thursday, Jan. 24 @ 6:30pm) is paper 3 on www.aiwinter.org, Fuzzy Sets.

Read up and see you in two weeks!

Great first AI Winter topic!

So the 1936 paper of Turing's, to which he refers in this AI paper is here:Âhttp://www.cs.virginia.edu/~robins/Turing_Paper_1936.pdf

I believe this paper describes what is now known as the "Turing Machine."

There is also a good book, "Turing'sÂCathedral" by George Dyson that talks about some of the work Von Neumann was doing at Princeton. ÂMisleadingly, it doesn't focus too much on Turing but it does cover the history of some of the early computers that were brought up in discussion tonight.

Anyway, it was a fun meeting and I'llÂdefinitelyÂbe coming back!
