I agree. More specifically, they generally do not have great cross browser capabilities, and the HTML they generate is usually pretty awful. I really don't like to use them because it allows the user to destroy the look/feel of your site by using strange colors/fonts/ alignments etc... I know the users can do the same thing with textile but they definitely seem to do it a lot less with textile.

Then again, I often think that allowing destruction of design is what made MySpace so popular.


But as a more interesting aside, are there some wysiwyg editors that produce decent looking textile or markdown? Seems like it could be a nice compromise.
