As far as a schema browser goes, thought this was a rather interesting web application (lovely UI) for browsing schemas. Though I imagine its not used to actually edit one yet... still fun to play with.

Does it have to be a GUI?  I'd be tempted to try to apply rails database migrations to this sort of thing.  You get an id for free and easy helpers for timestamp columns, etc...  There may even be some way to use them outside of the rails framework without too much fuss.
