I don't understand what specifically you object to in trademarks.
I've never had any trouble whatsoever with them, except in having to
indicate (R), (SM) or (TM) for those millions of products we have, a
somewhat annoying necessity.
As I understand it, trademarks are a way to protect the brand and
the integrity (if any) of the owner.
