Philadelphia Linux Users Group PLUG TOPIC: There have been several messages floating around the plug list lately. One is concerning Ira's question about SCSI devices in the /dev directory. Another concerns a Trojan horse in a Linux package. The SCSI problem as stated by Ira is: Situation: If a SCSI device is turned off at the time the computer is booted, the SCSI portion of the kernel code will not discover it and will not create the appropriate device node in the /dev directory. The Trojan Horse problem: This past month Bruce Perens wrote in the Linux Weekly News http://lwn.net/1998/1119/Trojan.html about the possibility of a Trojan horse being inserted in a Linux package by someone. This possibility becomes more probable as the number of packages available for Linux increases. This should be a concern for anyone that is either a system administrator, or a maintainer. Sendmail Problem: Martin wrote asking about a sendmail problem that he has, about setting up sendmail to do bouncing through his ISP. Writing Device Drivers: Ben asked about writing device drivers for the serial port. This month we will discuss these and other problems that you have concerning your Linux System.
