Re: Slackware and starOffice 4.0

Star Office is a very nice package. Unfortunately, it's too big for me
to cram it on to a 814MB HD along with the OS. :(

SO5 is supposed to be a huge improvement over SO4 with the ability to
read many types of MS Office files.

There is a problem with SO4 and Red Hat 5. It isn't compatable with
RH5's libc6 files. The problem is well documentated on the web and the
solution is fairly simple.

Many Linux users don't like Star Office because it looks too much like
Windows. Many don't realize that SO is written for many different
platforms including Windows. So (to me, anyway) a windowish feel is sort
of necessary.

Finally, support for SO can be a little difficult to get. Most of the
developers of SO and the parent company are German with little or no
knowledge of English. This is not anything against them; it's just that
the language barrier can be a big proplem if you need serious support.
An attempt to get around this was the creation of their own news server
at starnews.stardivision.com.
