Are you thinking of IMAP? No, DELE is a valid POP3 command. You can specify the "no keep" option in your ~/.fetchmailrc to have fetchmail remove messages on the server after they have been retrieved. Another option which you may want to investigate is "fetchall". When specified, fetchmail will retrieve all messages on the server, rather than just messages which the server has not marked as being seen.
