no dns

Linux newbie here.

I use the 'official' version of redhat 5.2.
I am working in xwindows.
I have made a ppp conection. i can ping ip numbers but I can't ping
domain names.
I thought I had my resolv.conf set up right.

my resolv.conf says:

search fast.net
    nameserver 198.69.204.2
    nameserver 198.69.204.7

my host.conf says:

order hosts, bind
multi on

my hosts file says

127.0.0.1            localhost            localhost.localdomain

Help!
