Are you certain you learn best from books? The amount of resources on the
web is phenomenal, and they are usually more up-to-date. Unless you really
can learn software just reading a book -- I can't comprehend it, but my
spouse *can* learn software from manuals & texts without touching a
computer -- I'd recommend against a book until you know you need something
specific like the Sendmail book or the Linux Network Administrator's
Guide.

Are you new to unix in general? Or just linux? If you're new to unix in
general, the www.scc.com has pocket reference cards that are very helpful
-- you'll probably want to learn a shell, an editor, and a scripting
language. Recommendations of which of those to use will start flaming
crusades.

I'd also recommend http://www.linuxgazette.com/ and a subscription to
Linux Journal. [I am not an employee of SSC, but a very happy customer.]

If you're familiar with unix, i think a book recommendation could be
better made if you explained what it is you need to know.
