I've never done anything like this before, but it looks like you can do it with mgetty-voice package. Although the version of mgetty that came with my distro (debian 2.1) doesn't have much documentation on mgetty-voice (surely there is more now), what I gather is that you can set up mgetty to be an answering machine for you. I think there are also config options to have a shell script called when a message is left. So you could write that script to, say, cron a pon command 30 seconds in the future or whatever.
