I currenty run something on the order of 10 M$ Proxy servers for a local school district. Assuming that they are setup properly [which is sometimes a very dangerous step], the following is true: 1. With no proxy client, set proxy in the browser to point to the proxy server 2. With proxy client, no proxy settings are necessary in the browser 3. Without proxy client, you can only get http and ftp 4. With proxy client, you can telnet et cetera, but still no pinging, etc. The goal is simply web/ftp on a unix box, right? All you should need to do is setup the proxy servers numbers in your browser. SOCKS doesn't apply here. ____________________ Steve Creel screel@nothinbut.net On Thu, 19 Aug 1999, Brent R.
