First off: sorry for the cross-posting -- I know that a good number of people are on all three of the above lists. But, what the heck, you all do it to me too. ;P There are a bunch of people that are only on one of the lists, and I'm trolling for any informed opinion I can get. I'm thinking about subscribing to @Home's residential "cable modem" service. Anyone want to share their experiences, opinions, recommendations? I've got a couple of PC's and a Mac, running Windows, MacOS, BeOS, and Linux. I read the short thread on 8/12 on the PLUG list and the thread on "geeks" that Steve started, but I'm sending it around once more for any new or modified experiences - I know that those of you who wrote last time have had almost another month of use, so maybe things have changed... How fast is it in the "real world" -- after some other people in the neighborhood have it -- the company claims only "100 times faster than 28.8," no actual numbers. How long does it take to pull down a sizable download (i.e, new Netscape)? How is customer service in general? How stable is the network -- outages, temporary slowdowns, etc.? Can I safely dump all this customized browser crud they talk about? (I'm pretty sure the answer to this one is "yes," since you can get a Linux box going) thanks in advance, mike _______________________________________________ Plug maillist - Plug@lists.nothinbut.net http://lists.nothinbut.net/mail/listinfo/plug
