I might even take that a step further and say that if you're going to try to
do web development, you may want to check out Zope at http://www.zope.org.
It's based on Python, and you can use Python to extend it, but you can also
get a lot of mileage out of the scripting language that's built in to it
(DTML).  It also has something of a GUI (web-based)..

Umm... could you be a bit more descriptive about what you're looking for?
are you looking for the IDE of VB, the massiviely accreted version of
BASIC in VB, or are you looking for a good, easy-to-learn language?

The only one I can recommend for is the last one, and I'd recommend Python
(http://www.python.org).

Now, tell me, did anyone NOt see that one coming? :)
