Have you read the CD-R HOWTO? You should have pretty much everything to run 
a CD-R already except a cd recording program. I don't think you need any 
special drivers, though I could be wrong as I haven't gotten mine to work 
yet. I think you're going to need a relatively recent version of the kernel 
to not have to recompile it and put lots of effort into it. I think it's 
pretty easy w/ >= 2.2
