Position Summary:

Perform all aspects of UNIX System Administration of the School of Arts and
Sciences electronic mail machine, including all its offered services.  Oversee
a central group of computer server system administrators.  Technical
consultant to email support staff. Second line UNIX system administration
support for other SAS UNIX workstations.

Duties:

Operate the School UNIX server cluster (includes: email, web, secure web,
network, storage arrays, nameserver, system tailoring, upgrades, backups,
software development, Oracle) with over 12,000 user accounts; perform
configuration & capacity planning, performance tuning & analysis; manage a
group of three UNIX system administrators; provide technical expertise to
other SAS UNIX installations; perform UNIX systems programming & applications
programming projects as needed.

Qualifications:

BA/BS required, MS in Computer Science or related field preferred; minimum 3
to 5 years Sun/Solaris system administration experience supporting large
mission critical operations; in-depth knowledge of UNIX system administration
& network host security required; other platform experience highly desired,
e.g.; IBM AIX, Linux,etc.; advanced programming experience in C, Perl & Bourne
Shell required, programming experience with Java recommended.


Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Ability to determine user
needs and consult with users, programmers, hardware experts, and service
personnel.

Salary range: $45,000 to $63,000

This is a full-time position. The salary will depend on the qualifications of
the candidate.

Must be immediately eligible to work in the USA.

Network Services, Workstation Services, Multimedia Services, Desktop Computing
Services, Instructional Computing, and Distributed Staff, with roughly 45 full
