With the distro. Look for all the XFree*font*.rpm packages. The other thing to look for is core files, or messages from syslog. This really shouldnt be happening. Its not so much "how do I fix the console" so much as "why is X crashing?". The Keyboard-and-Console-HOWTO may have some answers also. Try reading that.
