Well, your best bet would be to borrow a drive and test it. I mean, I have some SCSI
drives (not for sale) that I could toast for this sort of test. Don't you have any
friends with spare parts lying around or anything? You could also try a different
controller -- Adaptec recommended. On a personal note, I'm not too fond of
refurbished equipment, and I'm not sure I'd trust something as critical as a hard
drive, but that's just me. Then again, I've had new equipment die on me, so the key
here, really, is backups. But I never heed my own advice. --Josh
