I dont know if you've heard of this but....
There is another free X Server called wiredX from JCraft (www.jcraft.com)
who also do an Open source variant called weirdX. unfortuneately (depending
on which way you look at it) it is written entirely in Java so it is slower
(but i still managed to run some animated OpenGL demos which turned out not
too bad) but it runs in both application and applet form and i use it all
the time for cygnus+X stuff.
