In addition to Learning Perl, you might check out Elements of
Programming with Perl, by Andrew L. Johnson, published by Manning.  I
haven't read it, but it's gotten excellent reviews, as have all the
Manning books.  Object Oriented Perl (which I have read) is also
excellent, but probably too advanced for a beginner.
