I just got a DiamondMax Sunday, 13.6gb (at $120 it was a steal), and
have had a few problems since then. The HD shut down the first few times I
was running the system (stopped working mid-flight), but that's subsided
somewhat since then (I guess it's like a green engine in a car).
maybe it was just mine or the crappy MB that I have.

My fiancee is getting me a new hard drive for Christmas (I get to pick it
out, it's not purchased yet; she gave me a little heart-shaped box with a
slip of wrapping paper inside with tissue paper around it that said, "A new
hard drive!" I told her, "You sure know how to make a geek happy! :)").
What are some opinions on the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus family (7200 rpm, 2048k
cache)? The drive will be ~20 gigs (maybe 27), and I was planning to set it
up as hda, move the 2 gig drive to hdc or hdd (Which should I do? Master or
slave on the second channel with the CD-ROM drive?) to play my mp3s from so
they don't skip when stuff loads from the disk. :) I was thinking about
setting up hda1 as 10 or 20 megs mounted at /boot, hda2 for Win98, hda3 for
/, and hda4 for swap, but I've heard that 98 whines if it's not on the first
primary partition. Can anyone comment on this? Any suggestions? Comments,
suggestions (except for "Get SCSI!", as it's too expensive), and/or
clarifications are appreciated. If anybody suggests GRUB, please include
some info on it, or where to find more info.
