I would take a look at the linux router project. www.linuxrouter.org there is a good list of resources about it also at lrp.c0wz.com I would recommend however not using the standard lrp setup, and going with the matterhorn dist http://lrp.plain.co.nz/ or the lrp so you can use a 2.2.x kernel and ipchains.
