Hi Dave, I've seen a lot of stuff like this happen when everything has been compiled as a module and either the kernel module loader or kernld is so busy loading and unloading modules causing a huge amount of disk activity. Personally, Ilike configuring the kernel to have all of the hardware that is on the system compiled directly into the kernel, ie ehternet card, scsi card, sound and etc. Also I noticed that the dist kernels have modules for everything piece of hardware under the sun compiled into them. Have a great day :-) fourje wrote: > > Okay, > I've used Linux since 2.0.0, never had any problems with the kernel > (using or compiling). > Now I'm using vs 2.2.6.
