>From the latest WinLetter: There's a couple of guys in Southampton, England who have built a small Linux server powered by a potato. Actually, a series of potatos. No, really. You may not remember this from your elementary school science units, but it's possible to get a common household potato to produce a small current. Jam in a copper nail and a zinc nail, attach a multimeter, and you'll see. Anyway, these guys have hooked up about a dozen taters in series and connected them to a '386 motherboard running Linux off a ROM. There's not a lot of power (either electrical or computing), but it's enough. There probably would have been more interest in this when everyone was worried about Y2K, but it's still pretty neat in a phone-booth-in- the-Mohave kind of way.
