If it doesn't have a supported chipset (it's really the chipset, not the actual video card that's key) then you can still install Linux, you just can't use X (you may be able to get it to work anyway by playing around w/ different X servers esp. SVGA at low resolutions and color depths). You could always write your own drivers.
