Try doing 
	# ifconfig eth0 <ip address>
If this works, verify it by typing
	# ifconfig
Now it should show (at least) the lo and eth0 interfaces, with eth0 having
the ip address you entered. If this doesn't work then something is
obviosly wrong (Tho from dmesg it's hard to tell what since it looks like
everything is loading right).
Get back to us after trying that.
