HAVING TO EDIT is the operative term. You have a choice - to either do it the hand edit way, as Leroy prefers; or use package management tool - with the additional option of being able to do both - some via package management; some via hand editing. We've got choices all around, unlike Windows, where (most of the time) there isn't a choice.
