Up until yesterday morning, I was using ssh to log in to my home machine from work. Yesterday, it stopped working: ssh connects, DISPLAY is set, but X clients just hang with (sometimes) the following error message after a while: connect gw.purple.com:6012: Connection timed out Error: Couldn't find per display information After that error, I'm still logged in via ssh, it's just the X client that gave up. I'm using the same ssh I've been using for months: SSH Version 1.2.27 [i486-unknown-linux], protocol version 1.5. Standard version. Does not use RSAREF. The only thing that changed was my ISP, but I can't port forward at home over my 100baseT network, either, so I don't think my new ISP (DCA) has anything to do with this. [davinci] ssh gw password: ... [gw] xclock <hang here> # davinci and gw are both internal hosts, although gw has the # outside network interface as well. I checked for sshd_config and ssh_config files: nothing is specifying that X11 forwarding should not work. Anyway, as I said, DISPLAY is being set properly: [davinci] ssh gw password: ... [gw] echo $DISPLAY gw.purple.com:13.0 [gw] Any thoughts? Hunting on the web (google and deja) hasn't turned up much.
