Hi Adam, warning -- biased opinion ahead! I work for an ISP in Philadelphia that provides DSL -- DCANet. You get DEDICATED bandwidth between your ISP and your residence with DSL -- whether you get that same bandwidth out to the Internet depends on how your ISP handles the traffic to and from your DSL and the Internet. With a cable modem, you "share" the bandwidth to the cable company with others in your cable "neighborhood" -- which could be as little as 10 or as many as 1,000 residences. While I cannot speak for other ISPs, I can confirm that DCANet does not throttle or limit DSL traffic in any way, and that we make it a policy to ensure our upstream connectivity is both high-quality and uncongested. I hope some other PLUG list members will comment on that assertion. Also, I see you have a Swarthmore address! My fiancee is Swarthmore Class of 1994. Support a swattie! -Andrew On Wed, 1 Nov 2000, Adam Preset wrote: > I'm mulling over switching from cable modem to DSL.
