It generally means you need to replace the IDPROM (it's the DIP chip with the yellow label and barcode on it); the battery's dead. Before you do that, you might want to read the NVRAM HOSTID FAQ. I can't remeber the exact URL; it's on www.squirrel.com somwhere.
