You probably are missing or have the wrong default gateway on the box
with the ppp connection. 
If you look at the routing table on your debian box, you should have
an entry with a destination of default (or 0.0.0.0) with the other
end of your PPP link or a router in your ISP's network as the gateway.

You can add one manually by doing
route add default gw <my_gateway_name_or_ip> ppp0
