A few meetings back, someone was asking about a visual HTML editor for Linux. I just got the following from my daily Linux tip from TechRepublic: "YES, THERE IS A GREAT WYSIWYG HTML EDITOR FOR LINUX! Many would-be Linux users need to create and maintain Web pages as part of their day-to-day responsibilities, and they prefer to use what-you- see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editors, such as Dreamweaver or Microsoft Front Page. These programs combine easy-to-use Web page preparation tools with site management utilities. Linux users have been complaining for some time that there is no Linux-compatible software comparable to these popular Windows-based tools. The absence of a Mozilla-esque Dreamweaver clone is one of the several Linux application deficits that are keeping a good number of unhappy Windows users from making the switch to Linux. There still isn't a first-rate GPL-licensed, cost-free WYSIWYG HTML editor for Linux, but there is an outstanding commercial program: WebSphere Homepage Builder. Formerly called TopPage, WebSphere 4.0 is a Windows program that requires a specially adapted wine emulator (downloadable from IBM's site) in order to run on Linux. Don't let the emulation scare you off; WebSphere ran quite well on a Linux system equipped with a Pentium 166. Once you've started the program, you'll find that it's the equal of Dreamweaver or Front Page and possibly better. http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/hpbuilder/linux/index.html" ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
