[PLUG] SSSCA and Crypto back door thoughts

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

I have read some details in the news about public and congressional fears
about carnivore, wiretapping and crypto back doors in the last few days.

One thought always keeps coming back into my mind:
1932... fire in the Reichstag... public panic... man comes forward offering
to give them the order they desire... 12 years later 4 million Jews are
dead...

civil liberty is not in immediate crisis here, but it is being evaluated.

we need to closely and not emotionally evaluate these decisions that our
government is making. if we make encryption with back doors only the
criminals will use backdoorless encryption. if we do not allow legitimate
citizens to explore the things in our world that keep us and our data safe
only the criminals will have our data and our security...

i am not really looking for a flame or a fight here, i am just putting in my
2 cents so direct to /dev/null if need be. i still feel rage and utter
despair when i hear the story about this poor man walking around NY to find
his fiance... ( or at least she would have been if he where allowed to
propose to her Tuesday night over candle light dinner)... i know i would be
crushed if anything would happen to my Jessica... but i refuse to let
these feelings and emotions cloud my judgment... i love this country, and
as i have will be just as crushed to lose the freedoms i grew up with, just
for the illusion of safety...

p.s. has anyone seen if there are any technical things the PLUG can do for NY
or DC? We have a fair amount of DB expertice, we may be able to help collate
the info they have.
