As Leone points out, on the desktop side the MAIN issue that you have to address is your software needs/requirements. If you require MSOffice compatibility, then what will you use on Linux to replace it? What about custom software (like Mike's insurance example)? And if you're running WINE or Win4Lin, then you are still paying for Windows... On the server, it's a LOT easier to justify...UNLESS you've already got a complex solution in place based on ASP and/or COM and it needs to come across. So what I am saying is that the main issue you should be looking is identifying your requirements. Once you've done that, then you have concrete criteria on which you base your evaluation - not just in terms of each item, BUT also transition issues.
