Several of my friends across the country had a switch two days ago when
a new provider took over their cable internet services.  It was rather
smooth from what I understand.  Their mail servers bounced mail for 30
min. or so.

Doesn't Comcast offer a backup 56k dial-in?  How about NetZero on
Windows
with Internet Connection Sharing to pipe the Internet connection to
Linux?
