I believe so, but I am not an expert.  For some reason, I seem to recall 
being told that the system clock in my IBM Aptiva ran off the CMOS battery, 
and did not "charge" or switch over to the power supply when on.  I think 
its worth a try.  Is the computer old?  (by the way, when this happened to 
me, I was also leaving the computer on all the time)
