Yeah, I think it really depends... for instance, I personally cringe at
the suggestion of going to the local computer 'shows' the only one I like,
is TCF and now that it is run by KGP, it sucks too.

Personally, I've been shopping through Microcenter since before, when they
were just the mail-order biz MEI who had GREAT prices on disks, etc.

I think Microcenter's selection and prices on cables, as stated are pretty
good, and the prices I believe much better than CompUSA.

I did... but then again, that was when they had a great deal in
conjunction with e-trade.

And, yes, they do have an extensive book & magazine section.

However, I have grown increasingly disappointed with
Microcenter... typically I am looking for special sales, and rebates -
especially free rebates.

The last time I was there, the only thing I wanted, turned out to be a
misprint in their circular. (I was trying to get a FreeBSD PowerPak boxed
set with book for a decent price.)

But what really pisses me off is when I went to CompUSA (I found out they
do price matching/beating.) is CompUSA refused to price match Microcenter
on something cause they claim Microcenter carrys grey market goods.. (it
didnt piss me off about microcenter, it pissed me off at CompUSA.)

The problem is, unless you're specifically going out to Microcenter for
something specific like that obscure cable or printer ribbon, it's pretty
far for a lot of us, and lately there hasn't been much on sale/rebate at
such a decent price.. it makes it not worth it to drive all the way out
there. :(

You'll tell us when a really good sale comes up, won't you?? :D
