RE: [PLUG] R280LX / data cable / Linux

There are several cable vendors for phone serial cables and null modem adapter. Try teledaptusa.com. They have about every phone adapter under the sun as well as instructions. If I am not mistaken they just came out with a palm gsm adapter for the erriccson. The site is kind of cluttered, however the info and adapters are there. I too picked up the direct cable for a startac to a visor. Verizon has an access service that is about 14.4 with fairly clear instructions on how to connect. I spent about a week researching all the sites that google brought up with key words cellular cable, or adapter.

I did it with my palm to a cellphone... actually worked quite well (although
it was a startac, with a built in modem, not an Ericson. Also, I was able to
take advantage of Verizon's free data access, so I didn't have to get an
extra ISP).

You should look at this site for info on using PQA's on a non-palm VII:

also of note:

I got it all working quite nicely with my Palm IIIxe with OS 3.5.2. The new
palm OS, 4.x, might handle things a bit differently though...

Has anyone tried getting an Ericsson R280LX cell phone working with the
data cable (DRS-01) under Linux to allow wireless access to the Internet
(albeit at 19.2kbps max)? It definitely works under Windows, but I
haven't seen that anyone has tried it under Linux. Seems like it would
work though, all I need to do is set up a ppp connection to /dev/ttyS0.

BTW: Anyone tried the same with a Palm PDA? That would be VERY VERY
cool to have wireless internet access with the larger screen and have
ssh access as well.

Background: AT&T, with their pocketnet service, provides unlimited access
to their CDPD (data) network, using the microbrowser on the phone. I
assume this would also apply to use of the nework via the data cable.
