I'm not sure if we still have a need for two volunteers saturday, but it would be good to have PLUG people who know Debian and like to promote and encourage interest in Linux. And I think we are taking 5 or 10 machines to the WCCC saturday. Thanks, Chuck ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Tue, 29 Jan 2002 09:01:34 -0500 From: Jackie Patti <jpatti@ccil.org> To: ccilvolunteers@lists.ccil.org Subject: [Ccilvolunteers] PC Rebuild party on Feb 2 - volunteers still needed! We still need 2 volunteers for the rebuild party this Saturday. Email me at jpatti@ccil.org if you'd like to participate. Thanks! Info on rebuild party: CCIL is partnering with West Chester Community Center (WCCC) to conduct the computer rebuilds. Basically, the idea is that WCCC will provide lab space (those of you who have previously assisted know we don't have much space here at my home) and 5 teenage volunteers. CCIL will provide 5 volunteers to partner with the WCCC volunteers, in addition to my husband Steve and myself, who will assist all the volunteers. We hope to build 5-10 boxes to completion at this rebuild party and schedule the next rebuild party for March. We've built and tested a number of boxes hardware-wise, this next rebuild party will involve installing software. We're going to install the Libranet OS which is an end-user version of Debian, a Linux distribution, and a suite of applications. You don't need to be experienced with either hardware or software to volunteer. While I've worked in IT for years, I have little hardware experience and rely on my husband. All of us have minimal Libranet experience as well. We're all learning together, so don't be afraid if what you don't know this stuff! What we need is for anyone who wants to assist with the rebuild to meet at my house in Downingtown next Saturday at 1 PM and load your car with 3 or 4 computers and head over to WCCC. We expect to build boxes over at WCCC from about 2 PM until 6 PM or so. We want 5 people, so email me ASAP if you can make it. The space at WCCC has a large metal desk for each team of volunteers to work at. We will also need a few long extensions and power bars. If anyone has any to donate, or can bring along to the rebuild party, let me know. We have a very small budget for this project, so everything donated is appreciated. _______________________________________________ CCILvolunteers mailing list CCILvolunteers@lists.ccil.org http://lists.ccil.org/mailman/listinfo/ccilvolunteers ______________________________________________________________________ Philadelphia Linux Users Group - http://www.phillylinux.org Announcements-http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug-announce General Discussion - http://lists.phillylinux.org/mail/listinfo/plug
