As regards Real Player 8, I have successfully run it on various Linux
boxes. You can download it from here...

Also check out the rmxmms plug-in for XMMS. This way, you can listen to
real audio streams through the nicer XMMS GUI rather than the Real
one...

Yes.  You can only use Version7 of Realplayer on Linux.  And then when
you 
go to run it, it wants to upgrade.  Go figure.
