I am trying to install RedHat 7.2 on a computer that has an external parallel port/scsi CD-ROM (Adaptec Mini-scsi adapter). The computer cannot be booted from that drive so I made a boot disk using the image file on the RH CD and rawrite. At this point, the installation program will not recognize the CD-ROM drive, so, having plenty of disk space, I decided to try a hard disk install. I copied the CONTENTS of the 3 CDs to 3 directories in a DOS partition. The install program won't recognize them. The scant documentation in the book that the disks came with -- RH Linux 7.2 Bible -- covering hard disk installs, seems to suggest that instead of copying the CONTENTS of the CDs, I should have copied IMAGES of the CDs as files cd1.iso, cd2.iso, etc. However, I have no idea how to create these image files. Can someone please help with suggestions on the following options. * Will it be possible to install from the CD drive using the more esoteric drivers (oldcdrom.img - Supplemental CDROM controllers)? If so, how do I use these? * Am I correct in concluding that I need to create CD image files on the hard drive? If so, how do I create these files? * Is there a way to install from the hard drive using the CD contents rather than images? How do I do it? * Is there a better way that I haven't mentioned? Thanks for any help. We really want to start using Linux at home. Art
