I updated to xine 0.9.8, available from 
http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/~jcm/skyblade/XINE-0.9.8/i686.RPMs/

and I have sound now. AND picture, with xine. 

Life is better than it was. :-)
