[PLUG] SCSI CD-RW not being recorgnized as RW

I know I used to have this working ...

I have a scsi CD-RW, which is seen and semi-recognized at boot ..

Mar 19 23:45:10 minas-aran kernel: scsi0 : BusLogic BT-930
Mar 19 23:45:10 minas-aran kernel: Vendor: PLEXTOR Model: CD-R PX-W124TS Rev: 1.05
Mar 19 23:45:10 minas-aran kernel: Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Further along, I see this:

Mar 19 23:52:18 minas-aran kernel: sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 32x/32x writer cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
Mar 19 23:52:18 minas-aran kernel: devfs: devfs_register(): device already registered: "cd"
Mar 19 23:52:18 minas-aran kernel: devfs: devfs_register(): device already registered: "cdrom1"

However, cdrecord doesn't believe it's there ...

[root@minas-aran log]# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 1.10 (i586-mandrake-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root.

[root@minas-aran log]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 02 Lun: 00
  Vendor: PLEXTOR Model: CD-R PX-W124TS Rev: 1.05
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02

Why does it think it's a CD-ROM, and not a CD-RW?

Thoughts?
