The (less) expensive ones use both - .9/2.4G TX/RX and they are not spread spectrum. A true 2.4G full duplex SS runs about $120 or more last time I checked. You have to read the fine print when you buy these things. It can be deceiving. I bought one (.9/2.4) for about $70 and I ended up taking it back and getting a full SS unit. It worked infinitly better.
