No, most likely the 2.4.8 patch will fail as well.  As was explained
earlier, the Red Hat kernels have special patches added by RH to their
source code.  So the RH kernel 2.4.7 is not the same as a stock 2.4.7. 
If you try to use stock patches with a custom kernel, it will probably
fail.

Go grab a fresh stock kernel source and start again.
