[PLUG] Here's an interesting 802.11 tidbit...

Got this as part of the 802.11 Planet conference registration information.

Apparently the Convention center now has "full time?" 802.11b access.

    Wireless Internet Access:

    Wireless Internet Access Instructions
Please Note: Wireless Access cards (802.11b compliant) will be available for
rent or purchase at the Pennsylvania Convention Center?s Business Center
    during the show.
    Overview
The Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA) provides a wireless
network for Internet access. The network uses the 802.11b protocol via a
series of interconnected wireless access points throughout the facility.

    Requirements
To successfully access the Internet using the PCCA wireless network, your
wireless access device must meet or exceed the specifications listed in the
    table below.

          System requirements

802.11b-compliant network interface card (or equivalent)
          Text or graphical web browser
          DHCP client

    Using the Wireless Network

Step 1: Configure your 802.11b card

Some 802.11b card drivers require that the SSID and channel number be
supplied. The PCCA wireless network uses the following settings:

          802.11b Configuration Settings

          SSID: pcca (all lowercase)

          Channel: 3

          Backup channel: 11

Step 2: Configure your device to use DHCP
To access the Internet using your wireless device, configure the device to
receive its IP address, DNS server information, and default gateway via
DHCP. On a device running any version of Microsoft Windows, this
configuration is generally the default. Ensure that Obtain an IP address
automatically and Obtain DNS information automatically are both selected
under the TCP/IP properties of your wireless connection in the Network
    control panel.

Step 3: Launch your web browser
Access to the Wireless network is granted via a captive portal web page. In
order to gain access to the Internet, you must first launch your web browser
and attempt to load any web page. You should then see the PCCA captive
portal welcome page. If you do not, check your DHCP settings and also
confirm that your browser is not set to use a proxy server.

Step 4: Fill in the sign-in form and click "Go Online"
After supplying your name and e-mail address in the supplied form, click the
"Go Online" button to submit your information. Once this form has been
submitted, you can access the Internet normally using any supported protocol
(TCP, UDP, GRE, etc.) and TCP/IP application (HTTP, POP3, IMAP, telnet,
    ssh).
