Apparently the Convention center now has "full time?" 802.11b access. ----------< Forwarded Message Follows >---------- Wireless Internet Access: Wireless Internet Access Instructions Please Note: Wireless Access cards (802.11b compliant) will be available for rent or purchase at the Pennsylvania Convention Center?s Business Center during the show. Overview The Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA) provides a wireless network for Internet access. The network uses the 802.11b protocol via a series of interconnected wireless access points throughout the facility. Requirements To successfully access the Internet using the PCCA wireless network, your wireless access device must meet or exceed the specifications listed in the table below. System requirements 802.11b-compliant network interface card (or equivalent) Text or graphical web browser DHCP client Using the Wireless Network Step 1: Configure your 802.11b card Some 802.11b card drivers require that the SSID and channel number be supplied. The PCCA wireless network uses the following settings: 802.11b Configuration Settings SSID: pcca (all lowercase) Channel: 3 Backup channel: 11 Step 2: Configure your device to use DHCP To access the Internet using your wireless device, configure the device to receive its IP address, DNS server information, and default gateway via DHCP. On a device running any version of Microsoft Windows, this configuration is generally the default. Ensure that Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS information automatically are both selected under the TCP/IP properties of your wireless connection in the Network control panel. Step 3: Launch your web browser Access to the Wireless network is granted via a captive portal web page. In order to gain access to the Internet, you must first launch your web browser and attempt to load any web page. You should then see the PCCA captive portal welcome page. If you do not, check your DHCP settings and also confirm that your browser is not set to use a proxy server. Step 4: Fill in the sign-in form and click "Go Online" After supplying your name and e-mail address in the supplied form, click the "Go Online" button to submit your information. Once this form has been submitted, you can access the Internet normally using any supported protocol (TCP, UDP, GRE, etc.) and TCP/IP application (HTTP, POP3, IMAP, telnet, ssh). -- T.T.F.N.
