Hm, I don't think I've ever touched grub.conf.  Is it is /etc or
/boot/grub?  Did the timeout take effect when you rebooted?  This sounds
like it could perhaps be a Red Hat-ism - though under 7.3 I've still only
had to edit menu.lst.

Paul,

I noticed that menu.lst and grub.conf are identical.  I also noticed a
change that I made to menu.lst (changed the timeout) did not cascade to
grub.conf.  Do I need to make the changes in both places?
