Herein lies the rub.  Most cell phone "internet connectivity kits" 
include a cable to connect between the cell phone and a computer serial 
port AND *windows* software to dial the phone/modem from your computer. 
 You will need to investigate two things: the availability of linux 
software to dial the phone or the ability to manually dial to make the 
connection and start pppd.
