Did you try an Identify on it using ImageMagick?


I mailed to it my brother, a Mac user, who said:

 jpeg. Old format, if there is such a thing, since jpegViewer knows
 it, but ImageViewer (part of QT) doesn't without some coaxing.

I wonder if it's "pure" JPEG instead of JFIF/JPEG. that would be the only thing that I could think of w/o actually seeing the file in question.
