Re: [PLUG] proprietary software in an open source world

Arthur S. Alexion:
Problem, this version of Time Matters isn't cheap, and because it is a piece of proprietary software reluctanly released by developers used to working in windows, it doesn't look like you are going to be able to change any of your other software if you buy it.

So my question is whether such closed proprietary software can ever work in an open source enviornment?

I'm actually pleased that Linux is getting as much support as it is. What's even more amusing though is that apparently things are getting ported so that at least one version of Linux works, sadly usually RedHat. If the folks with propietary software just learned how to do a decent install without demanding that things get put in only specific directories, the propietary properties would not be so awful.

I've moved back to WP8.1 for Linux just to avoid the problems with Corel 2000/WP9 for Linux. OpenOffice and its Linux competitors just don't cut it for all too many situations (for that matter neither does Word in the Legal world if there are tight formatting requirements for pleadings). Not many folks appreciated what could be done with one of the WP packages recently. All I do is hope that one day, I'll be able to buy a crossover plugin that makes Corel Office 2002 work in Linux and be done with the madness. I've given up playing with wine trying to do that.
